AAUW, founded in 1881, is open to all graduates who hold an associate (or equivalent) or higher degree from an accredited college or university. AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. In principle and in practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class. Vision statement: AAUW will be a powerful advocate and visible leader in equity and education through research, philanthropy, and measurable change in critical areas impacting the lives of women and girls.
The public policy program underscores the American Association of University Women’s (AAUW) mission of promoting economic, social, and physical well being for all women and girls. Essential to that well-being is an economy that provides equitable employment opportunities, strategies that reduce poverty and promote economic self-sufficiency, affordable health care and retirement security for older Americans. Members can and must speak out on issues women and girls still face today. Women and girls still face discrimination in many areas of life. Officers:
